Brook and Bay Goldendoodles family business still thriving
What started as a passion for puppies has turned into a growing business. Joelina Merritt — with the help of her four daughters Taylor, Samantha, Brooklyn and Bailey — established Brook and Bay Goldendoodles in 2016.
They are a small licensed breeder of first- and second-generation designer Goldendoodles, Bernedoodles and AKC English Creme Retrievers.
“We concentrate on Standard and Mini F1 & F1b Doodles, which consists of Aussiedoodles, Bernedoodles and Goldendoodles,” Merrit said. “Winter of 2021 we will have our first litter of Micro Mini Aussiedoodles and Goldendoodles.”
Merritt said while the whole family helps out with the business, Brooklyn and Bailey have a passion for puppies. The two younger sisters run the business, while Taylor’s passion is real estate, Samantha is a travel nurse, and Joelina is a mortgage lender.
“As we worked closely with our veterinarian and breeding mentor, our business began to grow beyond what we expected,” she said.
There are Brook & Bay puppies in Alaska, Florida, Colorado, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio and several other states.
Over the last 18 months, the two sisters have been working on their skills to better serve their clients.
Brooklyn graduated from Nash Grooming Academy in the spring of 2020 and is certified in canine CPR and safety. Bailey is currently attending Nash Academy and will be Certified In August of 2021.
“She is excited to add to the business,” her mom said. “Her clients are patiently waiting for her to get started.”
Merritt said Brooklyn and Bailey are “millennial entrepreneurs at best.”
“They love their furry clients,” she said.
Merritt said they work one-on-one with each puppy on early stimulation and desensitization so they are well on their way before going to their forever home.
“You will not find a better breeder,” she said. “We love what we do.”
