Innovating banking technology for local business helps Birmingham Fintech win big
A rising Birmingham based Fintech business Voilo was crowned New business of the year at Business Live awards.
Voilo is an app that enables local business and charities to connect with their customers, take payments from anywhere and helps them save up to 90% on their transactional cost with just a mobile phone. Their innovative technology to drive growth for local businesses has helped them to be crowned as ‘New business of the year’ 2022. Voilo beat off stiff competition to win this prestigious title at the Business Live awards this year. Winners across the 9 categories were announced at the award night held in ICC Birmingham on Friday (March 18).
Voilo aims to not only have local businesses, sole traders, and charities on board, but to build a platform where they can share their story which not only saves them money but also helps attract new business. They aim to build a community of businesses to help support each other and to run events that promote the brilliant offerings of the region.
Birmingham has been identified as an established fintech cluster with expertise in the banking, lending, and payments subsectors. Recent relocation of HSBC’s UK Retail Banking Head Office from London has boosted the presence of finance sector in Birmingham. There was no better city for Voilo to launch their fintech start-up journey with an aim to bring innovation to the banking sector for local businesses.
Voilo launched in April 2021 with offices based in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham. In less than a year the company has secured inspiring local businesses already using the new system and recently launched an advert on Sky TV as part of adsmarts SME100 scheme, where they gained over 400,000 impressions and secured both customers and businesses to their waiting list. They have worked not only with local businesses but some inspiring charities like LoveBrum and Free@last.
The Birmingham Business live Awards 2022 are all about celebrating. Celebrating success in business, entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, and resilience, celebrating Birmingham. At the heart of the event is recognising and rewarding those in Birmingham’s business community who have gone above and beyond this year.
The Nominee for the ‘Young person of the year’ at the awards and the COO of Voilo Ronan Hynes along with Ravi Ranjan CEO Voilo said: “It was a real honour to be named ‘New business of the Year’. It is a testament to the Voilo team and the impact we are trying to make to support local business in the region. Voilo exists because we want to bring the best of banking technology to local businesses. Technology should be accessible for all, and we believe we can bridge the gap for small businesses, so they can bounce back and gain more customers through their doors’.
Voilo was selected by an independent panel of judges, including Pam Sheemar, Director of Commercial banking at the Natwest group and Henrietta Brealey CEO of Greater Birmingham Chamber of commerce. They were impressed by the company’s growth during one of the most challenging years during the pandemic through innovative and customer centric approaches.
Voilo is soon going to a year old in less than a month and along with this prestigious award there are many more milestones they aim to achieve this year along with growing their customer base in Birmingham and across West Midlands.
