Study shows how much North Dakota drivers are paying for auto insurance – InForum
BISMARCK — The North Dakota Insurance Department has released a study of how much different types of drivers pay for auto insurance.
The study released Friday, April 1 looked at 20 auto insurance companies who cover more than 80% of drivers in North Dakota. Those companies provided price ranges for 12 scenarios involving “good” drivers, motorists who have “less than perfect” records and “gig” workers, such as Lyft and Uber drivers. The prices also looked at young single men and women, married couples with and without youth drivers, and elderly motorists.
All prices were for a six-month period as of January 2018. The rates were broken down for Fargo, the Bismarck-Mandan area, Grand Forks, Minot and the rest of the state.
Geico Indemnity overall offered the highest priced coverage, often exceeding $1,100. Geico Indemnity and its parent company, Geico, did not offer insurance in the gig scenarios.
Some of the lowest prices came from Progressive Direct, Progressive NW and Nodak Mutual.
The report is not an endorsement of the companies it listed, the insurance department said. It’s a reminder of the importance of meeting with an insurance agent to discuss coverage, rates and options, Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread said.
